Terms of Service

The terms that apply when you use Dessa AI, including accounts, credits, subscriptions, refunds and acceptable use

Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to your use of Dessa AI, a browser-based voice studio ("Dessa AI", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Dessa AI.

The Service

Dessa AI offers two tools:

  • Live Talk: a real-time spoken conversation with an AI voice through your microphone, with live captions shown in your browser.
  • Text to Speech: you paste a script, Dessa AI reads it aloud and saves the result as a WAV file in your account. You can download and delete your files at any time.

We may improve, change or remove parts of the service over time. If a change materially reduces what you have paid for, we will tell you in advance where we reasonably can.

Accounts

  • You can sign up with an email address and password, or with Google sign-in. Email verification is required before you can use the service.
  • You must give accurate information and keep your login details secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
  • You must be old enough to enter into a binding contract where you live.
  • Tell us at support@dessa-ai.com if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

Credits and Pricing

Dessa AI is a paid service. There is no free plan or free trial, and new accounts do not receive free credits.

  • Live Talk is paid with credits: 10 credits = 1 minute of session time, charged in 6-second steps, with a minimum of 15 seconds per session.
  • When a Live Talk session starts, credits are reserved in 30-second blocks. When the session ends, any reserved but unused time is returned to your balance.
  • Text to Speech costs 1 credit per 160 characters of script (at least 1 credit), charged when you submit the script.
  • If a session or script fails because no connection could be made or no audio was produced, the credits for it are refunded automatically.
  • Prices are shown on the pricing page at the time of purchase. Applicable taxes may be added at checkout.

Subscriptions

  • We offer Starter, Pro and Max plans, billed monthly or yearly.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
  • Plan credits are granted every month, including on yearly plans. Subscription credits that are not used by the end of a monthly cycle expire and do not carry over.
  • Upgrades take effect immediately and are charged pro-rata for the rest of the current period. Downgrades take effect from the next billing period.
  • You can cancel at any time from the billing portal at /settings/billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access to your plan until then.

One-Time Credit Packs

  • Credits from one-time packs do not expire.
  • When you use the service, subscription credits are used first and credit pack credits after that.

Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered directly with Stripe and never reach our servers. By paying, you also agree to Stripe's applicable terms.

Refunds

  • If you are not satisfied with a purchase, you can request a refund within 7 days of the payment by emailing support@dessa-ai.com from the email address on your account. We will refund purchases whose credits have not been used. For partly used purchases, we may offer a partial refund for the unused portion at our discretion.
  • Refunds go back to the original payment method through Stripe.
  • When a payment is refunded, the unused credits it granted are removed from your balance. For a refunded subscription period, that period's subscription credits are removed and no further credits are granted for it.
  • Credits refunded automatically for failed or partly used sessions go back to your credit balance, not to your payment method.
  • Nothing in this section limits any refund rights you have under the consumer law that applies to you.

Your Content and Commercial Use

  • You keep ownership of the scripts you submit and, as between you and us, the audio generated from them.
  • Speech generated with paid credits may be used for commercial purposes. We do not add a watermark.
  • You are responsible for your scripts and for how you use the generated audio, including making sure you have the rights to the text you submit.
  • You give us permission to process your content only as needed to run the service for you.

Acceptable Use

You must not use Dessa AI to:

  • Impersonate a real person, or imitate their voice, without their consent.
  • Create deceptive deepfakes or audio meant to mislead people about who is speaking or what was said.
  • Commit fraud, scams or other deceptive practices.
  • Harass, threaten or abuse anyone.
  • Create or share content that is illegal or infringes the rights of others.
  • Abuse, disrupt, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service, or get around usage limits or billing.
  • Resell, sublicense or share access to the service or your account.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules. Where we close an account for a serious breach, unused credits may be forfeited.

Termination

You can stop using Dessa AI and ask us to delete your account at any time by contacting support@dessa-ai.com. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or if we are required to by law. Sections that by their nature should continue after termination, such as payment obligations, disclaimers and limitations of liability, will continue to apply.

Disclaimers

Dessa AI uses AI to generate speech and responses. Output can be inaccurate, unexpected or inappropriate, and you should review it before relying on or publishing it. The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, Dessa AI is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will notify you by email or in the service. Continuing to use Dessa AI after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable where the operator of Dessa AI is established, and disputes will be handled by the competent courts there, unless the consumer law of your country of residence gives you the right to bring a claim locally.
